Acid reflux brought on by hiatus hernia?

Hi, I have an appointment Wed for a Gasterologist because I was told I might have Acid reflux caused by a Hiatus hernia my problem is I cannot get hard foods down and barely can get soft foods down because it feels like its getting stuck just above my stomach and my throats irritated so bad when I swallow food it feels like thick slime going down and im hungry badly . I am able to get water down although its irritated to the point that I have to take small sips and I am taking mylanta, well a DG version of maximum strength is there anything I can do to help me eat ?
