Why do ignorant people think people in Texas still live like in the Wild West?

I find it so hilarious when people come to Texas and expect us who live here to be dressed like cowboys and ride horses all the time like in the Wild West. Seriously people this is the 21st century it's not the 1800s. Why do people think this about Texans?
