Why do gay men are related with being effeminate and s with being butch?

why do many gays are related with being effeminate and s with being butch? I know it could be a stereotype but many cases it's true and many of the gay parades you look gays effeminate even they are muscular and stuff like that and almost all the world and media put those stereotypes about gay males specially because in channels like E! and shows like Wild ON you can watch women playing together in wet-shirts.. well I am gay and I am little effeminate but I want to know more about my uality because it's hard for me to accept myself
